چکیده

A system suitable for real-time measurement of oxygen partial pressure (p02) in respiratory gas (oxigraphy) that is based on oxygen's ability to quench the phosphorescence of a lumiphore is described A description of currently used p02 technologies is provided followed by a description of the luminescence quenching p02 technology. A comparison of the technologies is made. The description of luminescence quenching p02 technology includes the operational theory and the advantages of the use of phosphorescence lifetime as opposed to phosphorescence intensity for p02 measurement. The clinical benefits of oxigraphy as well as a possible space-based application of luminescence quenching p02 technology are proposed

Fluorescence Microscopy Study of Heterogeneity in Polymer-supported Luminescence-based Oxygen Sensors.

Despite the great potential of fluorescence microscopy, its application to date has largely been in the study of biological specimens. It will be shown that conventional fluorescence microscopy provides an invaluable tool with which to study the photophysics of polymer-supported luminescence-based oxygen sensors. The design of the imaging system, the measurement methods, and the data analysis u...

Novel nanostructured materials to develop oxygen-sensitive films for optical sensors

Novel nanostructured materials, such as aluminum oxide (AlOOH), silicon oxide (SiO2) or zirconium oxide (ZrO2) embedded into PVA, were investigated as potential matrices to incorporate organometallic compounds (OMCs) for the development of optical oxygen-sensitive sensors which make use of the principle of luminescence quenching.

Method for measuring oxygen diffusion coefficients of polymer films by luminescence quenching.

To ascertain the relationship between the physical properties of polymer supports and the observed response of luminescence-based oxygen sensors, a quenching-based method was developed to measure oxygen diffusion in polymers. The method offers advantages over existing quenching-based techniques since it allows a simple correction for films of high optical density, and the computations do not as...

Influence of a Binder Layer on the Response Time of Pressure-sensitive Coatings

Pressure-sensitive coatings (PSP) offer a new highly promising means for visualizing and registering surface pressure in wind-tunnel facilities [1-5]. The method is based on dye luminescence quenching with oxygen. This technique has the following advantages: (1) it offers a non-destructive method for monitoring pressure distributions on model surfaces, (2) a very short time, about 2 – 10 s, is ...

Mo6Cl12-Incorporated Sol-Gel for Oxygen Sensing Applications

Excitation of hexanuclear molybdenum complexes such as Mo6Cl12 and its derivatives in the ultraviolet results in a strongly red-shifted luminescence centered at 750 nm. Since oxygen efficiently quenches the luminescence, these thermally stable inorganic complexes are candidate lumophores for real-time, high temperature optical fiber based sensing of oxygen. Sol-gel films containing the acetonit...
